About University of Massachusetts Lowell

The University of Massachusetts Lowell, also known as UMass Lowell or UML, is a public university located in Lowell, which is a city in Middlesex County, in the US state of Massachusetts, with a population estimated at a number of more than 105 000 inhabitants, fact which makes it the 5th largest city in the state. Along with Cambridge, Lowell is the county seat of Middlesex County.

UML was established in 1975, through the merger of Lowell Technological Institute and Lowell State College, and it is currently the largest university in the Merrimack Valley. The university has an enrollment of more than 13 000 students, and offers more than 120 degree choices, including internships, bachelor's, master's programs and doctoral studies, provided through several colleges, which are: the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Health and Environment, Engineering and Management and the Graduate School of Education.

Athletics

The athletic teams at UMass Lowell are known as the River Hawks, who compete in various sports, for both men and women, in NCAA Division II, except for ice hockey, in which they compete in NCAA Division I. Their distinctive colors are Persian red, Pigment blue and white.
