The University of Massachusetts Lowell, also known as UMass Lowell or UML, is a public university located in Lowell, which is a city in Middlesex County, in the US state of Massachusetts, with a population estimated at a number of more than 105 000 inhabitants, fact which makes it the 5th largest city in the state. Along with Cambridge, Lowell is the county seat of Middlesex County.
UML was established in 1975, through the merger of Lowell Technological Institute and Lowell State College, and it is currently the largest university in the Merrimack Valley.
